brain-food:

The team at Impossible decided to replicate the feeling of the legendary SX 70, but with your iPhone by converting digital images into the analog instant photos. Seeing that Impossible owns the last Polaroid film factory, they have promised to develop this product if they meet their goal on Kickstarter

This is another bit of inspiration for the Alan Turing project. I love the way it has static in between cuts giving it a very electronic feel and I like the the fast pace of the footage. The coloured filters also give it a very digital effects which again is fitting for the Decode Recode theme. I think it would be good to experiment with filters to see what effects we can get. I think the footage we produce should not be as hashed up as this though, as the digital jam will play part in this.

Decode Recode - Celebrate 100 years of Alan Turing

Decode Recode is an event to be held on the 23rd March 2012 at Media City. It is to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Alan Turing as part of the official opening of the University of Salford building. As part of this event there will be a connection of 24 partners for the time span of 24 hours for a live digital media jam.

We have been asked as motion graphic students at the University of Salford to participate in the event, so myself, Amelia and Bret have decided to work together to produce 30-40 minutes of footage to use in the digital jam. We have been looking at styles that we will use as inspiration for our piece and will be filming in two weeks time. In the mean time it’s research and planning for the day.

I love this image - the block shapes and contrasting colours make it strong and I like the way that the hands reach down from the sky, as if the skyline is hiding something superior..

5 seconds of fame!

Myself and my peer Brett de Beaufre-Apps created and produced a Digital Biography dvd for the University of Salford last summer. After the dvd being distributed to various institutions across the northwest and it being a success, we were asked to be photographed for an article for RISE magazine. This is the finished article!

Work Experience so far…

I haven’t been posting very much over the summer as I’ve been really busy trying to get as much work experience as I can.

Through June and July I did a placement with a peer which was editing film and creating motion graphics for a Digital Biography. The biography was to be shown to the people who run the University of Salford at a dinner event.

Students who had came to the University who had overcome certain obstacles such as money, race, religion and age, were interviewed and filmed on green screen. Altogether there was two and a half hours of footage that we had to edit down to fifteen minutes. This took longer than we anticipated!! We chose the most relevant parts of the interviews and then created the motion graphics for the backgrounds.

The Digital Biography was really good experience as I got to know my way around After Effects a lot more. We had to really plan our time well to meet the deadline too and there were lots of meeting with Suryia who was the organiser of the project. I really enjoyed the experience and was pleased with the finished result. We got a lot of positive feedback on the film. As far as posting it on Tumblr, I am waiting to see if I can yet.. But hopefully I will be able to put it on soon.
